Vendor Feature: Artist Angela Jane Lavender

When did you begin your business and what made you start your venture?

Even though I have always been an artist on the side, I began pursuing an art career full-time during the pandemic after levelling up my skill set through a virtual art course. I realized then that I didn’t want to make art just in between work hours. I wanted to give it my full attention to see how well I could do and to be fulfilled every day regardless!

Who or what inspires you to create?

My artwork is influenced by Vincent Van Gogh, Georges Seurat, Charmaine Olivia, Thalia Stanton and Lindsay Rapp. I am inspired by nature and all creatures big and small, vibrant colours and the desire to make our planet a beautiful and kind place for the generations that follow.

Who are your biggest supporters?

My biggest supporter first and foremost is my husband Jeremy. He encouraged me when I wanted to pursue art professionally and has cheered me on every step of the way. I am fortunate though to be surrounded by friends, family and collectors who genuinely love, purchase and promote my artwork. I am very grateful for my community and that I get to do what I love everyday.

If you could give advice to a new business owner, what would it be?

If I could give advice to a new business owner it would be that fear is a liar. It holds us back from what we truly want. When you push through your fear and work really hard it will pay off. If you never give up then success is the only possible outcome. It may take longer than you think and it may manifest in ways you didn’t expect. And you will fail at times, but if you persevere, you will eventually succeed. And amidst all of that your heart will be full every day if you stay true to yourself and your vision.

Fear is a liar. It holds us back from what we truly want. When you push through your fear and work really hard it will pay off.

Where do you see yourself in 2 years?

In two years time I intend to have my own art studio and gallery either on my property or on Main Street in Prince Edward County. I will continue to create and sell my artwork online and in person and also feature the work of fellow artists. I plan to join more galleries in addition to the three local ones my work is exhibiting at currently. I hope to influence and inspire people to face their light and be kinder to our earth and all of its inhabitants.
