When did you start your business and what made you begin?
Crochet has been in my life for as long as I can remember (my mom and grandma both crocheted for years!). However I only picked up a hook and ball of yarn myself about 6 years ago. After learning some basic stitches and gaining the passion for creating, I came up with Simply Chic, however it did not look the same as it does today.

Summer of 2022 my mother participated in the Quinte West pop ups. I had some items lying around the house that she added to the pop up to see if anyone would purchase them at a low cost. To my surprise they FLEW off the shelves and people started to ask “is this where we find the plushies?”. That was when I picked my crochet hook back up for the first time after losing my grandma and got to work!
What inspires you the most and is there anyone who influences you?
For as long as I can remember my Bomma (grandma) always had a crochet hook in her hand and a project on the go. She would make a variety of projects, most of the time giving them away to someone she did not know or donating them to a business in need such as the Humane Society.

I would like to keep her spirit alive by creating well crafted handmade crochet items and make donations/spread joy to others just like she used to do.
Who are your biggest supporters?
My parents for sure! My mom (Owner of Totes & More) has a passion for crafting and is experienced in knitting, crochet, sewing, and more. My dad is a business owner himself and provides me with lots of tips & tricks to running a successful business.

Where do you see yourself in 2 years? What is your main goal?
In 2 years, I would like for my side hustle business to grow just enough that I can run it myself while remaining as the face and hands behind everything behind everything the business offers. I would also love to be featured in several more shops in the area and possibly open up a website to start selling online and offer Canada wide shipping!
If you could give advice to a new business owner, what would it be?
This is tricky as I am still figuring this out for myself. With that being said I would suggest that you find your niche and stick with that. Crafting is so fun however offering a bunch of different items without a focus can be difficult when trying to draw in customers. I also suggest attending lots of popular vendor shows such as Side Hustle markets, pop ups, and more! Lastly, make connections wherever you go! Networking is so important, it allows you to connect with other businesses and build friendships with others who are also trying to pursue their passions!
